Opportunities and challenges AI presents in the healthcare sector

The emergence of AI in healthcare has completely reshaped the way we diagnose, treat, and monitor patients. Applications include finding new links between genetic codes, performing robot-assisted surgeries, improving medical imaging methods, and personalising treatment options, to name a few. 

However, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has recently called for rigorous oversight to ensure that AI is used in safe, effective, and ethical ways. 

Today, we’re joined by Ayesha Iqbal, IEEE Senior member and Engineering Trainer, Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre to discuss the challenges and opportunities of AI in healthcare, and why it is crucial to establish ethical guidelines and standards, ensure data privacy and security, offer trialability, and educate patients so that trust can be developed.
